On the Thursday 24th June I received a telephone call to say my daughter Alexandra had been hit by a car, was critically injured and about to be airlifted to hospital, it was 1am and I was in Los Angeles.

I was able to track her progress with regular updates from family at Kings College Hospital, one of the leading South East UK trauma units where the air ambulance had travelled to. The air ambulance had arrived at kings College Hospital in London 20 minutes from being called to the scene of the accident in Surrey.

I arrived back in the UK on Friday 25th and went directly to the high dependency unit at Kings College Hospital where Alex had been since admittance, she was in an induced coma with extensive injuries and a very poor clinical outlook.

Alex remained in a coma at the high dependency unit for 3 weeks receiving around the clock care from a team of the most dedicated nursing staff, all working 12 hour shifts. Alex began to respond slowly over the following weeks making a steady progress. She was transferred to the acute neuro care ward and eventually to rehabilitation under the care of Dr Richard Greenwood.

Alex was discharged from hospital on Friday 13th August, 8 weeks had passed and Alex had made what can only be described as a miraculous recovery.

The air ambulance transfer and high dependency unit treatment played a pivotal role in her survival and to that extent my family and I will be forever grateful.

The air ambulance serves both Surrey / Sussex and like many of the other units operated in the UK is funded entirely by charitable donations and operate with the statement ‘saving time - saving life’.

Your kind donation will help maintain the incredible dedication of the teams at both the Surrey Air Ambulance and Kings College Hospital.

Alex continues to do well and we hope over the coming months make a full recovery.
