You may have been diagnosed with cancer yourself or be supporting someone who has - cancer touches so many lives.

Being diagnosed with cancer or being told your cancer has returned can be a traumatic and life-changing event. People often describe feeling shocked, disorientated, angry, frustrated, scared, isolated, in need of support and often unsure what to do for the best. Penny Brohn Cancer Care helps change the way people live with cancer. Medical investigations and treatments can be intensive, stressful, draining, confusing and overwhelming. Penny Brohn provides information, psychological and emotional support and practical lifestyle advice to help people live well with cancer - working with people on residential and day courses in fabulous surroundings in Bristol.

I joined the Board of Penny Brohn Cancer Care in 2009 and have seen at first hand the hugely positive effect that the work of that charity has with people in periods of huge distress. The genuine feeling of positivity and well-being amongst service users at the Centre is humbling. Health services typically provide excellent physical treatment, but do not have the resources to support the individual at an emotional and psychological level. The NHS recognises the need for such support and Penny Brohn will hopefully play an increasing role in the wider 'survivorship' agenda.

It costs over £2m to run our services every year. 2010 is the 30th Anniversary of Penny Brohn Cancer Care and an intrepid band of Trustees, Managers and Supporters will climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for our vital services. Please give generously, your donations will directly and positively impact on the lives of people living with cancer.

Thank you for supporting us.
