Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
WE DID IT!
136 miles in total, but we enjoyed it apart from the aching legs and blisters.
We would both like to thank everyone for their very generous donations.
In May this year my wife Jill and I are carrying out a long distance walk in memory of our lovely daughter Alex, who died in a car accident on the 18th September 2007, aged 18.
We wanted to make sure Alex had not been forgotten and this would keep her name going and raise money for worthwhile charities.
The walk will start from our home in York to Bowness on Windermere, 125 miles over 9 days, comprising half the Ebor Way and all of the Dales Way.
We have been walking for many years, but have never undertaken long distance walks.
Our "Back Up Team" will be Jill's Mum and Dad, Rita and Keith, who walked the Dales Way 11 years ago at around 70 years of age. They will be staying overnight with us, but doing small walks and taking our luggage on to the next accommodation, and this would be their contribution.
We have chosen two charities to raise funds for, NSPCC as Alex was training to be a Teaching Assistant at Carr Infant School in York, a job that she loved and Brake for their promotion of road safety and support they give to road victims and their families.
We would be very grateful for any donation, no matter how small.
Many thanks
John and Jill Pickering
