As some of you may know, I'm doing a sponsored skydive this summer in aid of Tynedale Hospice at Home. The jump itself will take place at Peterlee Parachute Centre on Saturday, 28th August 2010. It's a tandem free fall and I'll be jumping from 10,000 feet and falling at speeds between 130/180mph.
My chosen charity - Tynedale Hospice at Home - is a charity based in Hexham that covers a wide area including Tynedale, Scots Gap and Ponteland. It's a wonderful charity that aims to provide free nursing care and holistic support to patients and their families within the local community. Patients are referred from GP's, Macmillan or District Nursing teams and once their needs are established, the Hospice then becomes involved and provides a range of valuable services.
Some of these services include end of life care and 24 hour support to patients and their families within their own homes. The Hospice can also arrange respite care, allowing family members to have the time they need for themselves and supporting them as much as the person who is ill. Other services include transport arrangements, dog walking, as well as holistic therapies such as reflexology, indian head massage and aromatherapy.
Every service the Hospice provides has the patient at the centre - and it helps the family too - bringing comfort and support at a difficult time in their lives.
As a second year nursing student with 5 years previous experience working in residential care homes, I have seen first hand the importance of palliative care and the emotional issues that surround it. Being able to help local people at a time when they need it most, is something that is very close to my heart and having met patients who have received support from the Hospice, I feel inspired to do this event. I would also like to mention that I'll be funding the jump myself, so you have my absolute promise that every penny we raise goes to the Hospice.
Please support me and donate as much as you can to this wonderful charity. Without their input, patients and their families would really struggle at a time where they need support the most. By donating just a couple of pounds, you have a real chance to make a difference to someone who truly needs it.
Please donate and support us. Thank you.
