The PACE Centre - The Children's Challenge · 24 May 2012 ·

We want every child in the UK with a neurodisability like cerebral palsy - and their families - to have access to learning and life changing therapy, aligned with our Pace approach. Our specialist clinical, education and therapy teams work with babies, children & young people from 0-18.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was born 11 weeks prematurely in December 2006 and at 2 weeks old (still 9 weeks away from reaching full term), I was deprived of oxygen inside my incubator, and was left with huge holes in my brain. I now have cerbral palsy: spastic quadreplegia (meaning I can't really use my four limbs because they are too stiff and the messages get a bit lost from my brain to my muscles); I am visually impaired, I can't really see but I recognize light and darkness and can sometimes even see blurry shapes and movement if I'm feeling well, and most importantly, I can recognize mummy and daddy miles away even with my eyes shut! :) I am dystonic and have epilepsy and have suffered from severe reflux since birth. I had my tummy surgery in January and have been feeling better since.

I attend a fantastic school in Aylesbury, The Pace Centre. They are really lovely there and have been teaching me how do all these amazing things like taking little steps with a walker, crouching down holding onto a bar, reaching out for objects and try to hold them by opening and closing my hands independantly. I'm also being taught how to communicate by using switches, cards and vocalizing. I know that I need to work very hard to achieve the challenges they set for me, but I am determined and have already come such a long way since my rocky start.

My school is holding a charity fundraising event, The Olympic Children's Challenge, to try and raise money for the school and help more children like me achieve their best potential in life.

So please dig deep and donate now.
