Story
Hello friends
Well, we did it! on 24th April Rog and i set off from Lands End on our bikes, and 11 days later we rocked up in a rainy John O'Groats. What happened in between was a long hard slog! We cycled up to 96 miles a day through England, Wales and Scotland, on all manner of roads, from terrifying ones with lorries whizzing past at 60mph, scary roundabouts and slip roads to negotiate, to the most beautiful roads in the Scottish Highlands with cattle grids and barely a car in sight. We learned that this country is far hillier than we thought it was, even the allegedly flat bits! we cycled through sunshine, wind and rain, ofetr well into the evening. We stayed at some lovely places and met some lovely people; we got through the whole thing puncture-free, and i only fell off once, in Thurso, 20 miles before the end!We did enjoy it though, we managed to put up with eachother admirably, and we are so pleased with the amount of money we've raised so thank you very much for your donations, keep them coming in!
Why Breast Cancer Campaign?
Some of you will know my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer back in spring of 2009, it was a terrible shock for our family, but mum has never complained or felt sorry for herself, she has put up with almost a year of Chemo and now radiotherapy, and we are hoping she makes a full recovery. So i did this craziness for mum.As mum and dad arent Twitter or Facebook savvy i kept them informed of our progress the old school way, with daily postcards.
Roger has a separate charity in memory of his lovely mum so if you would like to sponsor him you can find his page at http://www.justgiving.com/Roger-Alice-LeJog2010
So please my efforts of cycling every night on the turbo trainer in our kitchen, spending all my money on unattractive padded shorts (though i hear cycling shorts are going to be in fashion again in 2010), and learning to use stupid cleats and the consequent embarrasing falling over at traffic lights, worthwhile and sponsor me!!!!!!!!!
Oh and you can follow out progress on Twitter via https://twitter.com/RogerIrvine59
Big Thankyou
Alice
