Our mission at Terrence Higgins Trust is to end new cases of HIV in the UK by 2030; to empower and support people living with HIV to lead healthy lives; and to amplify the voices of those affected by HIV to eradicate stigma and discrimination.

Story

UPDATE 24TH APRIL Well, I did it. 26.2 miles in 3 hours 37 minutes. Thank you so much for all your support for this. If you haven't yet donated, please do so. It's not too late and I am very close to rather a formidable amount raised. Thank you! It was so so hard. People tell you the crowd will get you through... but when it comes to the last 6.2 miles, you have to find something from somewhere. Legs are exhausted, but just so relieved I've done it. Thank you for all your support! Ali x

Thank you for visiting my page.

I hope you will be able to donate LOTS of money and help me to exceed my crazy target for the London Marathon. 26.2 miles is a long long way, but I will bear in mind every donation as I run.

Terrence Higgins is a great charity at the forefront of HIV prevention. The reason I have chosen to support them is their drive to educate and stop complacency amongst people when it comes to protecting themselves from HIV/AIDS. Their extension into Africa is hugely encouraging.

- More than 25 million people have died of AIDS since 1981.

- Africa has 12 million AIDS orphans.

- By December 2005 women accounted for 46% of all adults living with HIV worldwide, and for 57% in sub-Saharan Africa.

- Young people (15-24 years old) account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide - more than 6,000 become infected with HIV every day.

- Of the 6.5 million people in developing and transitional countries who need life-saving AIDS drugs, only 1 million are receiving them. (Avert 2005)

There is no cure for HIV/AIDS and THT are working tirelessly to remind people of that and educate people to not gamble with their lives. The statistics for recent increases in HIV/AIDS infection are terrifying and demonstrate just how non-judgmental the disease is.

A HUGE THANK YOU for your support. Ali x
