Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am trying to do 2 positive things in celebration of great friends who are fighting cancer right now, and those who showed us how to live life fantastically and fully despite being with us for a much shorter time than we hoped.

Firstly, I am going to run the 5K Hydroactive Women's Challenge in Hyde Park on September 3rd. OK so only 5K you say, agreed, but right now I can only just about run to the end of my road without wanting to collapse and receive immediate medical attention.

But to make it a bit harder and hopefully inspire all of you out there to sponsor me, I am also going to try to get healthier and fitter and slimmer

So the second positive thing is : I am going to lose 2 stone and my aim will be to do this by the end of September. Believe me that will be a much harder challenge than the run!

The more you all give, the more I will (hopefully!) be inspired to achieve. I will update you on how it's going!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Cancer Research UK will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Please donate generously.

Many thanks for your support. Together we can help fight cancer, and find a cure.

June 2006

2nd July 06. I half jogged, half walked  the Race for Life on Epsom Racecourse today in 32 degrees!! 43 minutes. Pretty exhausting, but now I can sympathise somewhat with the England football team. Thanks to all my sponsors, who have helped me raise £150 today.

I have also reached the 10lb mark on the weight loss front.......

18th July 06: I have now got to the first stone. Starting to run around the block regularly, only 1.6 miles but it is a start!! Thanks to all my sponsors .

12th August 06: Now lost 1 1/2 stone, getting harder!! Have done less running these last few weeks but about to go on holiday and hoping to both run and swim every day ( to help fight the lovely French food and wine calories too.......) Thank you all for your on-going support. I have also entered for the 10K Cancer Research UK run in Loseley Park near Guildford in October......going to have to get on with some serious training!!

30th August 06: ran in 2 mile fun run at Soul Survivor ( church youth week in Somerset) and, together with 4 friends, raised just under £60 for Soul Action - a soul survivor/Tear Fund partnership project helping very poor children in Durban township in South Africa.

Swam every day whilst in France and ran from time to time - thankfully have not gained any weight but have not lost any either.........not surprisingly!  The Women's Hydroactive is just 4 days away, and I managed to run a steady 30 minutes this evening ( compared to 2 months ago when I managed a very breathless 4 minutes before nearly passing out.......of course, am no longer carrying an average 1 yr-old around with me ie 21 lbs) Thank you once again to all my sponsors and I will let you know how I get on. At least it should be flat..............

3rd September 06: Women's Hydroactive 5K in Hyde Park: winning time 15 mins 24secs, Paula Radcliffe 18 mins something, slightly further back ( approx 5-7000 out of 20,000 crowd) Alison with 33mins 25secs. Pleased to have knocked a full 10 minutes off my time in June - mind you I did run it this time. A friend pulled out yesterday so my daughter, Holly, aged 11, did it with me, after no training at all........kept up fine ( at times I was saying, Holly please wait!!) and then put on sprint finish to beat me!! Holly finished 33 mins 05 secs. It was an excellent atmosphere and I can honestly say that at one point during the race we were just 100 metres behind Paula Radcliffe ( at the start............)

Thank you so much to all my sponsors, with the gift aid added I have now got above £1070, a huge benefit to research into cancer. I now have 4 weeks to go to try to push off that final half a stone........getting rather difficult...........

I am also continuing the running and will be doing the another Cancer Research 10K in the autumn - so do give again if you feel like it!! And no, I will NOT be doing the London Marathon - we were greeted at the end with "and for those planning on doing the marathon next year, you just have another 23 miles to go..........."

Thank you all once again

19th October I just wanted to update this page and say a huge thank you to all my supporters. I have managed to lose the 2 stone and it seems to be staying off! I am quite determined to keep things that way!

I have done less outside running recently as a bit of a wimp in the rain but am still going strong in the gym .

I am delighted that I have raised very nearly £1500, including the gift aid, which is far above my expectations. The really important thing is that all this money will go towards helping  develop treatments to beat cancer. Thank you all so much for your support.
