Training miles since Christmas: 47.5, 28/1/11

I am running the Virgin London Marathon on April 17th this year, to raise money for the Alzheimers Society.

Alzheimers is a cruel disease which is a terminal illness, but on the way it strips people of their dignity and their very selves and is also destructive to the families who care for their loved ones. I have seen the tragic effects of this illness on people and their carers and the way it destroys lives.

BUT the Alzheimers society is both funding research to prevent and treat this dreadful disease and also providing practical help and support to sufferers and carers through day centres, befriending services, caring for people whilst their main carer can go shopping and many many more - see the website on the left of this page for more information.

Having run previously for children's cancer charities and other cancers I wanted to raise money for people sometimes at the other end of the giving spectrum - the elderly and their carers who patiently and lovingly care for their relative even after that relative no longer recognises them.

Please give generously to help prevent this horrible illness and support those who suffer from it

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

As per 2 years ago, I will do a mini-blog on this page to show how I am getting on!

26th Dec 10: First run for ages, just 3.5 miles but it was a lovely sunny day, had to skip around the ice, but the training has now started!
