Ronald McDonald House UK helps families with children in hospital stay close by providing free accommodation just minutes from children’s hospital wards. Our Houses provide more than accommodation. We offer stability and emotional support that allow parents and carers to be active partners in care.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for Ronald MacDonald House Charity in Oxford, my son JJ was taken seriously ill in October 2009 and was in hospital for a total of 3 1/2 weeks in John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford which was an hours drive from home.

I am doing the Green Park Challenge which is a 2.8km run on Sunday 20th March 2011 and my biggest challenge is a 100ft abseil down the side of John Radcliffe Hospital on Sunday 22nd May 2011 - so please sponsor me. I am trying to raise £500, as it costs £1,000 to run a room for a month.

I had never heard of Ronald MacDonald House Charity before JJ was taken ill and I don't know how I would have got through the 3 1/2 weeks without them. They offered us accommodation which was 2 floors above his hospital ward, so when the nurses called in the middle of the night, I was there within a couple of minutes. I slept soundly knowing JJ was being looked after by the wonderful nurses, so I wasn't tired and could get through the next day. RMHC allowed both me and Pieter to stay at the hospital, if RMHC hadn't offered us the room, then only one of us would have been able to stay on the hospital ward - it also allowed Jonty to stay with us on a couple of nights too.

It was the toughest time of my life, seeing JJ in intensive care for two days and then in hospital for so long, especially with the doctors not knowing what was wrong with him. JJ's illness still remains a mystery to the doctors, but I am pleased to say that he is back to full health and hasn't suffered any last effects and he turns into a teenager in a couple of weeks!

Please support RMHC, as you never expect your child to be in hospital far away from home.

Thank You

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
