Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am raising money for Cystic Fibrosis by undertaking the Brecon Beacons 15 mile challenge in Oct 09 with my big Sis, who is truely inspirational, and a loyal group of friends. After the first initial  - omg - I am now looking forward to this event and have started training already!

Like me, many of you may not be aware of exactly what Cystic Fibrosis is.  I'd heard the condition mentioned previously but it wasn't until 1996 when my nephew Ryan was diagnosed with CF that I truely looked into this illness.

Ryan is now 13 years old and is a happy, energetic teenager who is constantly making us laugh and has a great sense of humour.  He is a true inspiration to us all as his get up and go attitude to life is invigorating.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease. It affects over 8,000 people in the UK.  Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis - around 1 in 25 of the population.

If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.

Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis and three young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.

There is currently no cure for CF but there is hope on the horizon.  Gene therepy trials have recently begun, which we pray will eventually benefit Ryan and everyone else who lives with CF.  Ground breaking research like this costs a lot of money and there is always the danger that progress towards a possible cure will be delayed by lack of funds.

Help keep that hope alive, by donating whatever you can, however small, and send me a comment to inspire me on the way to treking those 15 miles!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now and help raise money for this worthwhile charity!
