Story

*Cycle Trip Update*

Well Max and I have been cycling for 5 days now from Land's End.  We are staying in Kidderminster tonight (Fri 4th July).  The knees and limbs are a bit sore, but we are getting into our stride now.  The ride so far has included cycling through heavy showers in Devon and Cornwall and cycling 97 miles from Wellington to Gloucester!  We hope to make it to Macclesfield tomorrow before taking on the urban mass of Manchester the next day.  I hope to update you all as soon as possible.

*Cycle Trip Update (2)*

Made it to Clitheroe on Sunday 7th July! Had all sorts of trouble with my back wheel yet again.  Were hit by heavy showers as well. 67 miles from sleeping on a church hall floor for the night near leek.  We then enjoyed the end of the incredible Wimbledon final! off to kirkby Stephen tomorrow.

*Sunday 13th July*

Max and I completed the cycle ride on this day!!!  The trip has been tough with bad weather, many punctures and aching thighs!  One of the many highlights was possible cycling 135 miles from Fort William to Helmsdale in a day.  I am now spending a few days on Orkney islands, making the most of it whilst I am this far North.  Thanks to everyone for the wonderful support and donations.

Thank you all for taking the trouble to visit my page!

As some of you may know I am taking a gap year abroad in Uganda from October 2008 to February 2009 with Smile International.  Here I will be working in a school five days a week teaching the school curriculum, marking the children's work and taking part in sports and music activities.  Of the 450 school children many of them have lost their parents because of AIDS.  Smile International works towards giving these children a better education and so a better quality of life.

To raise money for my voluntary work abroad I will be doing a sponsored cycle ride from Land's End to John o'Groats from the 30th June to the 13th July 2008.  This is approximately 900 miles by road and is the longest distance between two points on mainland Britain.  The record for the feat is a crazy 41 hours but I hope to do it in no longer than 2 weeks.  I will be camping and staying in friends' houses along the route.
