Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Allan and I felt very strongly about helping this charity. Our daughter Jessica was born 6 weeks premature in June 2010. To date we have been very lucky that Jessica has been a vivacious, energetic, and funloving little girl, but a trip to the Children's ward in Raigmore several months later for a non urgent vomitting bug brought to light just how inadequate resources at the Children's ward are.

My trip to the Children's ward was a real eye opener, Arriving from Dornie (1 hour and a half away from Raigmore) we were ushered into a waiting area that had a very spartan selection of toys and not much else and waited to be examined. Later after struggling to keep a very grumpy Jessica entertianed, exhausted, I was given the key to a small room where I could supposedly make a cup of tea, only to find the kettle not working and no milk in a very old and barely functioning fridge.

I came across a mum whose 2 year old daughter was very sick indeed with Pneumonia. This mum had been at the children's ward for 2 months and was at breaking point. Whilst staff were helpful and friendly, resources for parents to get a break are at a minimum. Toys are old and not age appropriate, there is a shortage of beds, and this mum was not even able to stay in the same room as her sick child. Making an already very traumatic situation alot worse. The staff are doing their best but in outdated, inadequate facilicies

We urge all Highland parents to donate to this charity, We hope that you never ever have to rely on the services of the Children's Ward but the chances are that you or someone you know WILL possibly have to use their services. The place is screaming out for new facilities, the kids need new toys and the parents need a place where they can go to relax and be able to have a cuppa to calm their nerves.

Sick kids and their parents deserve more so please please please dig deep and donate now.

The Archie foundation have committed to raising 1 million pounds to redevelop Raigmore's Children's ward and ensure that sick kids have a child friendly envionment ,and parents have access to family support facilities throughout their stay

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
