My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Capability Scotland will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

What am I doing?

Those who know me appreciate that I like a challenge and, having retired from team sports (body too old, too long to recover) I looked for a new challenge. I know, lets do a half marathon, so I am doing the Edinburgh Forthside half in April.

So what I hear you say, and I knew you would, so I have decided to extend my fundraising for the year.

28th of April 2008 sees the small matter of the Highland Fling Run, a 53 mile ultramarathon from Milngavie to Tyndrum on the West Highland Way, see http://www.highlandflingrun.co.uk/ for "fool" details. No that is not a spelling mistake!

Next up, on the 21st June 2008, is the West Highland Way race, a nice gentle 95 miles or so from Milngavie to Fort William on the West Highland Way, see http://www.westhighlandwayrace.org/

The triple of ultramarathons is completed on the 9th August 2008 with the Devil of the Highlands, Tyndrum to Fort William, 43 miles on the West Highland Way, see http://www.devilothehighlandsfootrace.co.uk/, although this date clashes with another event, so may be missed this year.

The year will finish with the "short" Loch Ness maraathon in October 2008, its only 26 miles.

As you can see, I am prepared to put my aging body (43 at the time of the races) through a tough training schedule and some tough races to raise money for a worthwhile cause. What do I want from you? I want you to exercise your fingers and feel my pain in your bank account and make a donation!

There will be other fundraisers, such as a sweep to guess the time (in hours, not days) for each event and a combined time (which could be days!) Watch this space for details. I will also publish training schedules on http://allanharley.spaces.live.com/ so you can sit at home comfy during the winter knowing that I am outside "playing"! Check allan.harley.motionbased.com for in depth analysis of previous races and of up to date training runs.
