ShelterBox - Dartmoor Challenge · 11 September 2010 to 12 September 2010 ·

ShelterBox work to ensure that vulnerable families around the world have life-saving emergency shelter, and other essential tools and aid items, after disaster strikes. Be it an earthquake, flood, conflict or hurricane, we are there for those most in need.

Story

Every year hundreds of thousands of people all over the world are affected by disasters, like earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict. People often lose everything and would be unable to survive without help. ShelterBox instantly responds by delivering boxes of aid. Each box supplies an extended family of up to ten people with a tent, lifesaving water filtration system, stoves, pots and pans and basic tools to use while they are displaced. Since 2001, ShelterBox has provided shelter, warmth and dignity following over 80 disasters, in more than 50 countries.

Essentially, the challenge is a timed event that involves self-navigating from check point to check point across Dartmoor.  The challenge involves a physical 30 miles hike which is split over the two days, we as a team will carry a full ShelterBox across the moor and camp overnight using only the contents of the box.

Our aim is to raise £1000 which will allow ShelterBox to provide 2 boxes to those most in need.
