Story
Third year!
This will be the third time Oliver and myself make our way around the fields over at Barleylands. The first year the challenge was on me, having to carry him all the way around; last year he managed probably about two thirds of the way; this year it's all on him - hopefully I won't have to pick him up at all! So whilst a mile might not seem long to you or me, for him it'll be a challenge (anyone who knows us well will know how much of a clumsy walker he is!).
The reason I chose this event annually is down to its family friendly policy, it's for all ages and all abilities and requires little to no training, which I don't have much time to do. And the charity? Why St Luke's?
Oliver's father was diagnosed in 2012 with a GBM4 (brain tumour) and throughout the treatment process we saw lots of people from different charities, but St Luke's were consistent, supportive, and his allocated worker went above and beyond by my measure, to help Chris and keep him positive. When Chris went downhill, they were there, when we lost him, they were there. They continue to be there, and whilst I don't depend on their support anymore, they continue to help the lives of other patients and their families.
This event is a way to remember Chris is a positive way, not just for myself, not just to raise money for St Luke's, but for Oliver to remember his Daddy in such a good way; nothing negative about what we are doing each year.
So why have I set the target at £1016? Well over the years I have raised £1984 - completing the target this year will see us hit a total of £3000.. Yes, that's right, averaging out at £1000 a year! It also means more money for the charity that rely solely on fundraising to keep their £3m a year to run hospice open.
So even if all you can afford is being able to share this page to your Facebook, or tell someone what we are doing, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Vickie and Oliver xxxx
