Alpe d'Huez 2009 · 19 April 2009

The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation has two aims, the first to promote independent worldwide research into all aspects of prostate cancer; and the second to spread the crucial knowledge gathered from that research as far afield as possible, via an internationally recognised forum, attended by the world’s top prostate cancer experts. The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation is also the home of the Bob Monkhouse ‘Give a few bob’ campaign www.giveafewbob.org.

Story

As well as being a very popular ski resort Alpe D’Huez in the French Alps, with an elevation of over 6100 ft, average gradients of 7.9% and 21 hairpin bends, provides a 14km challenge to cycling enthusiasts and is frequently included as a stage finish in the Tour de France.

Having conquered the Stelvio Pass last year this seasoned band of cyclists (and a few new conscripts!)

Allan Atkinson / Richard Holland / John Czernobay / David Morris / Andrew Foulds / Bob Ballard / Tim Ballard / Wayne Jones / Stephen Tregenza / Steve Duckers / Richard Cleverly / David Graeme / James Wood / James Shipton / Adam Birch

are ready to face their next challenge and, trusting the judgement of the few who had a practice run at Alpe D’Huez a while ago, are heading to France.

Statistics show that prostate cancer affects almost every family at one time or another and kills one man every hour in the UK, which makes funding for research very important. This year the team have decided to put their pedal power to good use and raise some much needed money for PCRF (Prostate Cancer Research Foundation).

Any donation you wish to make would be greatly appreciated and if you are a tax payer please remember to put a tick in the Gift Aid box to ensure your money goes even further.

Thank you very much for your support.
