Welcome to my fundraising page! Please read my motivations and kindly support a worthy cause.

Motivations

I would like to dedicate my efforts to my Auntie Gwyn who passed away on the 20
 of December 2010.

My Auntie Gwyn was first diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and underwent extensive and prolonged treatment which was initially successful. For five years she took powerful anti-cancer drugs but in 2010 the cancer was found to have spread to both her liver and bones. She lost her life five days before Christmas, aged 47, leaving two wonderful children and a loving husband. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the nursing profession which she has remained dedicated to for the past thirty years.

I want to complete this event to raise money for St Anne’s Hospice who took such great care of her, allowing her to live her last days in peace and with dignity and enabling her family to spend as much time with her as possible.

The Event

Each year, many people run the marathon. I've decided to go that step further and run 72 miles, at altitude, in the dark!

The event will take place 9000ft above sea level (a third of the height of Everest) at Lake Tahoe, California. The race starts at 10pm on Saturday 24
September 2011. I will run through the night for 46 miles and then join a regular marathon starting early Sunday morning. There is a time limit to complete the full 72.5miles (115km) and no breaks or stops are permitted.

All costs of the event including flights, accommodation, food and any support will be borne by myself. This way any donations find their way to the cause that needs it.

St Anne's

St Anne's Hospice is owned by the Sisters of St Annecy, who are its trustees. The hospice provides holistic care for patients who have a life limiting illness. It is the only in patient facility of its kind in the whole of Gwent. Each year St Anne's requires £1.25m to provide 24/7 high quality, multi-disciplinary care and support for patients and their families. Although some funding is provided by the Government and Local Heath Board, approximately two thirds of the funding has to be raised through fundraising events and donations.

Please support a cause that is very close to my heart and in doing so ensure the continued provision of this invaluable facility.
