Story
This summer, Holly, Tilly and Molly are doing a ‘lunghissimo’ walk. It will be in aid of a brilliant and relevant cause, so please listen up and give generously!
Walking from the Swiss-Italian border in the Alps, down to Sicily finishing at the peak of Mount Etna, covering a total of over 1,800km!
The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust:
The Trust was created after Charlie Waller, a talented and positive 28-year-old man, took his own life. Similar to others, Charlie was suffering from a mental illness that could have been treated with the correct support and information.
The CWMT team consists of a small group of experts who provide individuals and institutions with skills, knowledge and confidence to support people suffering from mental health issues. CWMT simultaneously gives training to primary health care and professionals in identifying those with depression, while teaching in evidence-based therapies at the Charlie Waller Institute, at the University of Reading.
Please have a scan through their resources, as there is something appropriate to everyone, whether you are at university, home or the workplace: https://www.cwmt.org.uk/colleges-universities
The Walk:
At the beginning of July, we will be taking the trusted 'Shanks’s Pony' from the Great St. Bernard Pass on the Swiss-Italian border, down the length of Italy. The route will take us down the east side, hitting Rome after a whopping 1000km, (where Molly will finish her leg). Holly will then carry on, down past Naples swiftly joined by Tilly. Together Tilly and Holly will march onwards hitting Reggio Calabria, where Holly will then finish the final leg on to Sicily. We will be aiming to average at 30 km per day, but the real ‘feet’ will be from enduring this distance for over nearly three months. With the addition of the Italian heat and equipment, the walk is shaping up to be a real challenge but each step taken will be towards this fantastic cause. Therefore ANY contribution is greatly appreciated!
(p.s. If any fellow ramblers would like to join us, we would love to walk with you! And if you can help in any other way- please do get in touch!)
