Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our team JustGiving page.
On 14th October 2010 a team of civilian amputees, healthcare professionals and friends will embark on the challenge of a lifetime, to scale the dizzy heights of Mount Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa. We are taking on this challenge to promote health and fitness and to inspire new amputees to get on with their lives after limb loss. Although an individual amputee has completed this climb, this will be the first time a team of amputees, with differing levels of disability and fitness will embark on such an adventure!
At 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break the Earth's crust. We have chosen the Rongai route, which starts just south of the Kenya-Tanzania border and has been mostly unused for many years. This is deemed to be the most beautiful route. The Rongai route begins in attractive farmland and delightful forests. We will pass through several different climate zones, which will be a challenge for amputees, but will add considerable interest to the trek.
