Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and supporting my efforts in the Lee Valley Fun Run.
Challenge Africa is a charity that was set up by myself and some university friends in 2007. We currently work in two rural communities in western Kenya and are committed to finding sustainable solutions for social, health and educational development.
This summer, Challenge Africa is working in partnership with Intervol ( http://students.bugs.bham.ac.uk/intervol/ ) and launching the ‘Challenge Yourself’ volunteer programme. A group of committed and experienced volunteers will be spending July and August in the rural community of Wagusu, working on sustainable development projects including building a classroom and accommodation for local orphaned children, increasing the capacity of our poultry farm which provides food and income for the orphans and getting involved with different aspects of social care in the community.
I will be accompanying the team for a couple of weeks in August to set up the ‘Classroom Challenge’ programme; an interactive education programme for schools in the UK, highlighting global issues affecting children in Kenya. I Will also be working alongside local community volunteers to implement a sustainable solution to female disempowerment through the production and distribution of washable sanitary protection. This is an important issue facing many girls in rural communities across Africa and desperately needs to be addressed. Finding an easily accessible and hygienic solution to this on-going problem has the potential to massively empower women in the area and contribute to a better quality of life.
Thank you so much for your support. All your donations will go towards this summer's projects and really will make a difference. For more information and project updates please visit www.challengeafrica.org.
