Poetry Cafe is where I first started saying things on stages to strangers. Many of my friends and heroes in poetry began the same way. Since then, hundreds of open mic events have appeared up and down the country, but there's nowhere else quite like the Poetry Cafe. I'm helping to raise money for its refurbishment so that this institution can be accessible to all, and continue to support and be relevant to new writers and performers.
