MY CHALLENGE
I have done it now! My name is down for ‘THE CHALLENGE’ Bike Ride. 23 other enthusiasts and myself will leave on the 30th of April to do a cycle ride through Thailand and Cambodia. For seven days we will spend 50 miles a day in the saddle. To some of you this might sound like child’s play, but it is a long time since I could last call myself one of those. We will be raising a minimum of £35000.00 in aid of Myton Hospice. If you would like to come on some of my training rides to learn more about the Warwickshire cycle routes and keep me company please e-mail me on andrea@swcms.com.
So why me and why now?
I have always wanted to do a greater challenge and known friends who have walked in the Sahara, done a cattle drive in Wyoming, cycled, walked to Everest Base Camp and more, but I always felt the challenge to be too great.
Then, four years ago my mum died of cancer within two months of diagnosis and I was very lucky to be able to be with her and support her at all crucial moments. This also went for my siblings and my father and the hospital was more then helpful and professional. We were lucky as a family to get the support from each other and the medical and caring professions to help my mum and us through one of the most difficult times people experience.
My mum’s parting made me more determined to give my desire to do a sponsored activity greater attention. But as time went on and life was as busy as ever, I never quite got round to getting organised
Then last year a very close friend fell ill with bowel cancer. Throughout her battle she had one thing which created a basis of support for her and all her family. This was Myton Hospice and some MacMillan nurses. I never envisaged the impact this really down to earth, loving and caring support can have for all involved. The facility of family staying close to their loved one and receiving counselling as a unit and individually, reinforced my believe in the importance that nobody battles through this on their own and that an institution like Myton Hospice is crucial to provide this support.
This hands on experience and witnessing the service provided first hand is, what finally enabled me to commit to this. To me ‘The Challenge’ is one little bit of support to this service which is funded purely by donations. Furthermore it is also my own personal challenge to finally stand up and be counted for a cause I strongly believe in.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Myton Hamlet Hospice Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
