Hello and thank you for visiting our Philemon JustGiving page!
As you may well be aware, we met whilst out in Kenya doing Christian legal charity work and Philemon was one of the projects which we had the pleasure and privilege of visiting and getting involved with.
Philemon was founded by Kelvin Mwikya who, having been wrongly convicted of robbery with violence, came to faith whilst in prison and vowed to do something about the terrible conditions he had witnessed and experienced. Upon release in 1996, he was able to find work as a carpenter and selflessly used what little he had to buy toilet paper and soap to take back into the prisons for the benefit of the prisoners. This marked the beginning of the work of the Philemon Foundation which today is one of the leading Kenyan prison charities, providing a variety of services for the benefit of prisoners and former prisoners, including prison visits, half way home accommodation, counselling, education, vocational training, small business support and advocacy on criminal justice and penal reform.
For more information about the work of Philemon and Kelvin's story, please see www.philemon.org.
We both have a real heart for the great work that Philemon is doing and are really grateful for all donations received. We know that the money will be much appreciated and put to great use!
Many thanks once again.
