Story

Many thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I’m running in the Great North Run on 20th September 2009 and would be extremely grateful for your sponsorship. I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible to support the work of Action Duchenne. Please help.

Action Duchenne exclusively funds research into treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Duchenne is a devastating muscle wasting disease for which there is no cure. It is most often diagnosed in early childhood and affects mainly boys. Sufferers are often in a wheelchair at the age of 10 and by their teenage years many develop respiratory, heart and spinal complications. Without treatment most of these young men die by their late teens or early 20s.

For the first time the dream of a treatment for Duchenne is a realistic possibility. New genetic research is under way in the UK to find ways of replacing or fixing the faulty dystrophin gene. There is an urgent need for funding to advance this research to save the lives of these young people.

Thank-you for helping.
