We are four RBG employees, currently working on Piper Bravo platform. On February 7 2010 we will attempt to climb , the largest free standing mountain in the world at 19,330 ft.
The whole focus of the challenge is to raise money for four individual, respected charities that being: Clan Aberdeen Bowel Cancer (A.McIntosh) – Children’s Heart Unit Freeman’s Hospital / Children’s Ward Rake Lane Newcastle (R.Crass) – Breast Cancer James Cook Hospital Middleborough (D.Nolan) - Zoe’s Place Children’s Hospice Middleborough (A.Nolan)
The Kilimanjaro climb will take 7/8 days in total, hopefully to reach the summit , prior to our descent. We are in active correspondence with a local Tanzanian trekking Company and we will be attempting the Machame route. This is generally considered to be the most difficult and longest route. It is documented that only 50% of people who attempt to climb ’s Kilimanjaro – fail! Usually due to altitude sickness. We have started a strict training regime to get ourselves in peak condition to make the climb (excuse the pun).
We are not attempting this journey for any personal gain and are each contributing in excess of £2000 towards the cost of the climb.
We have registered with all of the above charities and have their full backing and support. All monies raised will be divided equally between the four charities, which all do fantastic work.
Presently we are organising raffles for prize draws and theme nights and we are asking everyone to dig deep to raise funds for these worthwhile causes.
As you can appreciate this attempted climb is a major undertaking and we hope, with your help, to hand over a large cash sum to each of the respective charities. We are intending to have a maximum publicity drive and will inform local press, hospital bulletins and to eventually set up a ‘Just Giving’ web site for each charity.
We are asking you to come onboard and support this massive charity effort. In return we would be willing to publicise any company or agency that assists with our fund raising.
Paul Whammond – the OIM on Piper Bravo has agreed to act as trustee to all collections and transactions of the ongoing charity fund.He will advise, liaise and play a supporting role to maximise the progressing fund.
So we would ask you once again for all your kind help and generosity which would be greatly appreciated for this Charity climb, which we hope to achieve.
Yours Sincerely
