Story

From Dartmoor to the Bronx!

On 2 November 2008, I will be running the New York City Marathon. For an overweight 45 year old who has only been running for a couple of years, this is a daunting challenge! After months of training, the race itself is now just around the corner, and I can't wait to get to the Big Apple and take part.

I am raising money for Children’s Hospice South West, a fantastic charity which cares for seriously and terminally ill children and their families in the South West of England. Through its "Precious Lives Appeal", CHSW is planning to build a much needed third hospice in the region, this time in Cornwall.  I am quite overwhelmed by the amount of support I have received in fund raising so far.

This will be my first marathon attempt. I have been in training since January and by the time of the race, will have covered over 1,000 miles, including 5 half marathons and a number of 10Ks. Unfortunately, I am still as overweight as ever!

I am very pleased to support CHSW and it would mean a lot to me if you could sponsor me.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Children's Hospice South West gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
