LEJOG - Lands End to John o' Groats · 10 March 2008
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
In 2006, Shaun was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils. His doctors told him it was going to be a battle and he underwent aggressive radio' and chemotherapy and, as you can imagine, had quite a fight on his hands.
Shaun was unable to eat properly and as a result lost an enormous amount of weight. Coming to terms with cancer is one thing, but there are so many other things to consider. MacMillan helped Shaun and his family and friends so much and in so many ways, from financial advice to arranging family planning and much, much more.
Without MacMillan Cancer Support, Shaun would have been concerned about a bunch of things he really shouldn't have been worrying about. Fortunately, Shaun has made a full recovery and persuaded Andy (following a drink or two) that it would be a great idea to cycle from Lands End to John o' Groats (That's @900miles!!!) to raise money for MacMillan cancer support by way of a big 'thank you' for their help and kindness.
We did it! This was a massive challenget! We trained regularly, in all sorts of weather (Andy is really adept at falling off as well) but neither of us are ardent cyclists.
Our employers, Boxwood Ltd, have kindly bought all equipment and have paid for all expenses, which means we can give all the money raised directly to the charity - superb!
Please dig deep and donate online for this fantastic charity. We already have some very generous pledges still to come in and Boxwood have donated an additional £1000 still to be added to the total!!
Donating through this site really is simple, fast and totally secure.
It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please donate now!
Many thanks for your support. It is massively appreciated. We completed the journey in under 10 days and have very sore knees! Shaun's knee was particularly painful and he was still hard to keep up with!
Don't under-estimate what a challnge this was - I trust you'll agree with us when we say we have earned every penny for the charity! Highly recommended - if anyone wants details or just to laugh with us at some of the daft things we did, then get in touch and we'll provide details (including route and some top tips - especially how not to dismount the bike!!)
All the very best (as we take a short rest!)
Andy
