Blackpool Marathon - 27/04/08 Update 28-4-04-08 Mission Completed !!! Well what can I say;apart from "ye kin tak the boy oot a long distance running but, ye cannie tak the long distance running oot the boy" (what an athlete) The night before the marathon there was a few things going threw my mind i.e would I finish due to no training. After an isotonic lager and a small kebab I set myself a time of around 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 hours due to the dire training. It wasn't by any means easy, It was blood sweat and tears. I completed the first 12 miles in about 1hr 35mins then took cramp in my thigh muscles, blisters and body parts aching that I didn't know existed. I struggled the next 14.2 miles crossing the finish line at 5hrs 34mins 18secs. This was great as the priority was to cross the finish line, never mind trying to stick to a time. Most of my pain disappeared instanty after I crossed the finish line. Well I must give a sincere thanks to all the people who said I wouldn't do it, this made me more determind to complete it through the pain barrier. "So get it right up ye's" (ha ha ha) Most of all I would like to thank all the people who has supported me on/off line. All sponser money donated to me personally will be updated on-line once collected in. Thanks again for all you support and if you haven't donated, "Get yir hon in yir pokeit" Dated 24-04-2008 Hi Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, for the Blackpool Marathon 2008, please take the time to read this. Training to Date (24-04-08) = None Determination = Enough to make me complete the whole 26.2 miles. I feel the need to contribute to this cause due to the amount of very close friends and family I’ve lost over the past few years. Cancer seems to be a thing that everyone thinks/hopes they will never get.
In the month of January 08 my mother who is 70 was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas which had spread to one of her kidneys.
She ate healthy foods all her days, used herbal remedies as substitutes for medicine, never smoked and thinks three sherry's at a party is having a good drink. (I must take after her NOT!) She had a lot of tests following her diagnosis which led to an operation lasting 9 hours, this involved her having one of her kidneys removed, a tube taken from her liver to her bowel to stop the jaundice and her stomach redirected to her bowel away from the pancreas.
Unfortunately the tumor at her pancreas had wrapped itself around the main blood vessel at the pancreas, the tumor had to be left in as removing the tumor could possibly have killed her. She is in good spirit under the circumstances, although very tired. We are now hoping that she will have a good reaction to the chemo-therapy she will receive after she recovers from the operation. I have been thinking to myself, why live a healthy lifestyle if it won’t do you any good? Then further thinking to myself, if she never led such a healthy life style would she at the age of 70 have been able to survive a major operation.
It’s a case of ”what’s for ye, won’t go by ye" one of her phrases. Therefore live life to the max as you don't know what’s around the corner, we can all only hope it’s not cancer.
I'm sure you know of someone who has passed away over the past few years who was close to you, let’s try and prevent this happening to someone else by supporting the Cancer Research UK Charity.
I'm not asking for you to pledge you life savings, but it would be great if you did! I don’t like asking people for money for charity, but please help on this occasion. I would be more than grateful to receive a small donation as every penny will go towards making life saving changes in the future.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Should you not want to donate on-line, please give any donation you want to pledge to me and i'll do it for you. (Your donation will be displayed on this page along with your name)
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support and taking the time to read this. Andrew Crichton
