Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Last year (2007) I cycled across the USA for fun. (Oh, how I laughed!) This year, from August 16th to September 10th I am cycling down the East Coast of America from Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Jacksonville in Florida. This year is 'for serious' because I am trying to raise £2,500 for Cancer Care, a charity local to North Lancashire and the South Lakes area a based here in Lancaster, England.

The past two years have been bad ones in a number of ways as I have lost many good people to cancer; I also have many other people that I know who are battling the disease. These people deal with Cancer with displays of courage that I can only imagine. A little bit of saddle soreness does hurt but isn't anything in comparison. Far too many of those friends have died far too young; far too many of them got nowhere near the 'three score years and ten' lifespan. Cancer isn't much of a caring disease.

CancerCare does care.

They do great work in the community in North Lancashire and the South Lakes providing support for sufferers and their families. I can't explain it very well, but if you want to find out more go to their web page at www.cancercare.org.uk/index.htm

Please donate. I am doing my bit and will be producing a 'blog' which will give you, hopefully, some interesting reading and insight into cycle touring through the USA by taking the form of a daily 'diary' telling you how the ride is going.

If you want to follow my progress, go to http://www.apdowneastcoastusa.blogspot.com/

You are not going to fund my 'holiday', please be assured of that!

I have long since paid in full for the trip, well before I decided to raise the money, so you have my word that every penny, cent, pound, dollar or any other form of currency that you send to the fund will go to CancerCare. The only thing I will take from your giving is the comfort that you are following the ride, suffering with me (in some way) but appreciating and supporting what I am doing.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: CancerCare North Lancashire and South Lakeland gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
