Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In a moment of madness I have signed up for the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon which is on 31 May 2009 and have decided to run for Down's Syndrome Scotland.

I will explain a wee bit of why I am running for this charity.

We have twin boys, Ross and Lewis (that's him to the left), who has Down's Syndrome. When we were told that Lewis had Down's Syndrome, a day after he was born, I was devastated. I didn't know anyone with Down's and knew next to nothing about the condition. For a start I had no idea that there were 3 different types or that the condition has varying degress of severity.

A few generalisations that I had heard about Down's before Lewis came along  were things like "they are very loving". I never really thought much about it and if you  have had no experience of Down's why would you,  but now that phrase to me just seems absurd. It's a bit like saying "all Scottish people like haggis".

Whilst Lewis does like his cuddles, usually from his mummy, he is first and foremost a little boy. He has his moments like any other child but most importantly he is an individual with his own personality.

He has brought a huge amount of joy to our lives and anyone who has met Lewis will understand why.

Thankfully he has avoided most of the often very serious medical conditions associated with Down's however not everyone is as fortunate; conditions such as heart defects etc.

That is why I have decided to run the marathon after all its only 26.2 mil... wait a minute nobody told me that!

Seriously though, although it will be a challenge (eighteen weeks of hard training) It will be nothing compared to the challenges that Lewis and other people with Down's face on a daily basis.

A message from Lewis

Please sponsor my daddy he is getting on a bit and the only reason he is running is because he is having a mid life crisis.

If you want a laugh please come along to Musselburgh Racecourse at around 12.30 on 31 May to (hopefully) see him finish.

Lewis x
