Story

Everyone knows someone who has suffered from or been affected by cancer.

This is my small part in the effort in the fight to eradicate it once and for all. To raise money by walking the Pennine Way.

Most blokes my age (41), suffer a mid life crisis about now, and go and buy something fast on 2 or 4 wheels. Ive bought a ruck sack and new boots and intend to try and do the ultimate pub crawl (about 12 I think). Anyone who knows me, will read this and be convinced im mad attempting it.

Im going to do it over Easter. Between 15th March and 30th March.

The Pennine Way National Trail, 268 miles (429km) of trail chasing the Pennine Mountain tops along the rugged backbone of England, from the Peak District through the Yorkshire Dales and over Hadrian's Wall to the Cheviots. Amongst the finest upland walking in England, it's a walk that everyone should do once in a lifetime. Or so the book says.

A survey by the National Trails agency reported that a walker covering the entire length of the trail is obliged to navigate 287 gates, 249 timber stiles, 183 stone stiles and 204 bridges. 319 kilometres (198 mi) of the route is on public footpaths, 112 kilometres (70 mi) on public bridleways and 32 kilometres (20 mi) on other public highways. The walker is aided by the provision of 458 waymarks.

The route of the Pennine Way passes close to or through the following places (mountains and moors are marked in italics, towns and villages in normal type):

These details were taken from wikipedia, the best online resource I have ever seen. Please click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennine_Way to see it in its original context.

The official website, which has an excellent map of the route, for the pennine way, can be found at http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/PennineWay/index.asp?PageId=1

I would like to dedicate this page to my uncle Eli. Sadly no longer with us, but he would be proud. He never knew it but he sowed the seeds for this walk about 30 years ago. Thanks Eli, its for you.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Dont be tight. 1p a mile is nothing and just think of the wet feet, blisters and 2 weeks without cable, broadband and a warm bed. How about 5p a mile or more?

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now and keep following my mobile sms blog which will be continually updated on http://www.glimt.com/blog/andrew

Many thanks for your support.
