River Thames Boat Project- Great River Race 2008 · 13 September 2008 ·

The AHOY work with disadvantaged children, young vulnerable people and those with disabilities. They offer them the opportunity to learn new skills along with the AHOY running courses and programmes to train them to gain qualifications and life skills needed for employment.

Story

The annual 'Great River Race' held on September 13th is London's River Marathon. The race itself follows the river Thames starting in semi-rural Surrey and ending up in London docklands - a total of 22 gruelling miles.

It is a spectacular event, attracting around 300 crews from all over the world and appealing to every level of competitior from those who enjoy fancy dress (not us) to serious sports men and women who like to win (us).

There will be several types of boats entering from Dragon Boats, Longboats, Skiffs & Whalers through to our boat - a Thames Waterman Cutter.

Pictured left is the team consisting of (from nearest): Jodie, Phil, Angus, Yours Truly, Guy, and Simon.

We do need financial support however, and would appreciate your sponsorship. All monies raised will go directly to the Ahoy Centre (see summary below left) which is a worthwhile cause giving disadvantaged children opportunities to experience water based activities in central London.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The AHOY Centre gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
