ABF/RBL Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle Ride · 14 April 2009

The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

Between 16th and 29th May I am cycling with Pete King between Land’s End and John O’Groats (the “uphill” route!).  For me this will fulfil one of my life’s ambitions although I have not cycled more than a couple of miles for at least 10 years.  During the ride we will cover about 1023 miles and so we should be averaging about 76 miles per day.  Our route will take us up through Cornwall and Devon, up to and across the Severn Bridge, along the Welsh border to the Mersey Crossings, then through a part of the Lake District before crossing the Scottish Border at Gretna.  We will then head up the West Coast to Fort William before travelling up the Great Glen to Inverness and then on to John O’Groats.  We are travelling unsupported, carrying all our kit with us and staying in B&Bs and with relations along the way.

Our cycle ride is raising funds for the Royal British Legion, which helps serving and ex-Service personnel and their families by providing welfare services and campaigning on a range of issues affecting Service people.  The Legion is also the custodian of Remembrance, raising funds through its annual Poppy Appeal.  With the current level of operations the need to support our Service and ex-Service personnel is greater than ever.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the Royal British Legion gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
