When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

This year I tackled the marathon for the first time.  Quite a facer for a mid-50s and decidedly non-sporty person.  Somehow I managed to run all the way, finishing in 4 hours 57 minutes and 44 seconds.

I was fortunate to secure the London Marathon place through a competition in The Times, and ran as part of the 'Flora pro.activ Marathon Challenge' team of 30 marathon novices led by Matthew Pinsent, raising funds for the Stroke Association.  Had a great time, and it looks like everyone on our team did really well.  Congratulations to all of them.

Many thanks to everyone who has offered help, advice, encouragement, money and other forms of support along the way.

With the donations and the reclaimed Gift Aid, the total raised is over £5,000.  this is far more than I had anticipated - a wonderful response for a really worthy charity.  I will try to contact as many sponsors as possible to offer personal thanks, but am posting the outcome here for the time being.

Cheers,

Andy Young.
