Having worked for the fire service for over 20 years I have a great deal of experience of the fantastic work that the Fire Fighters charity does in supporting people in need. 

On that basis, I am delighted that this cycle ride gives myself and other chief officers around the country the opportunity to get out from behind our desks and on our bikes.

Don't feel the need to contribute on the basis of the discomfort that I will suffer from doing the ride, but on the basis that you will be making a contribution to a really important charity!
