Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle Ride · 3 May 2009

Every day of the year, your local air ambulance (Warwickshire & Northamptonshire) is helping save more lives. Our critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots attend an average of five rescue missions a day. We receive no government funding for our daily missions. Your support keeps us flying.

Story

Hey Guys,

On the 5th July this year I'm riding from the bottom to the top of the country, Land's End to John O'Groats. This is about 950 miles in 7 days. As most of you know I'm a keen cyslist but at about 135 miles a day this is a genuine challenge - and there's no short cuts!

There's myself and 5 of the guys I train with doing this, with one support vehicle. It's not an organised event and we're funding all costs ourselves.

As many of you will know, on March 9th 2006 I had a pretty bad car accident at high speed on the way back from work. This resulted in me doing a lot of damage to myself (oh, and the car - see FaceBook photo album "Clio Sport 182. Oops.")and being left bady injured by the side of the bypass a long way from the nearest hospital. Not only this but it was cold, getting dark and starting to rain. Not the best situation.

Other drivers stopped to help and called 999. Very quickly the air ambulance came and I was airlifted to hospital where I was put back together. As everybody knows speed is the most important thing when you are injured and the rapid reaction of the air ambulance, combined with the simply brilliant skills of the medics avoided my injuries and fading consciousness becoming far worse.

That night I was due to go out training and in fact it was about six months before I could ride a bike again at all. I'm now training hard again and it only seems fit that I should do something to give something back to the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service to which I owe so much.

Any support you can give would therefore be massively appreciated. Lets be honest, this is a service any of us may need some day.

My company will double anything I raise up to a maximum of £500!!
