Hi everyone - yes it’s me again - and yes I'm doing another cycling challenge yet again for a fantastic charity - this time it's Jewish Blind and Disabled. I'm cycling 100km through the night on 19/20th June from Crystal Palace to all the sites of old London Town and back again. Just think -100km thats....... a lot of miles.
Jewish Blind & Disabled is the only Jewish charity providing caring assisted living for vision impaired and physically disabled people of all ages. They transform the lives of Jewish blind and disabled people and their families, enabling them to live an independent life of dignity and choice. I feel they are worth the effort.
Just picture yourself- its the middle of the night 19/20th June 2010 - the shortest night of the year - no doubt it will be a warm evening, perhaps a bit muggy - and as you enjoy the warmth of your continental duvet and the comfort of your hand plucked goose feather pillow, as you dream your dreams of scoring a World Cup goal or taking your exams in the nude - I'll be peddling hard through the night, trying to keep awake, trying to reach my goal without nodding off and crashing - and when you do decide to get up on that light bright Sunday morning and you pour out your favourite muesli inot your bowl and make your tea in that ever so funny oversized mug - just think of me - still peddling away - peddling -peddling.... and if you feel even a minor bit of sympathy for me and my pathetic obsession with cycle challenges - please, please dig deeply and sponsor me for this amazing charity. And one more thing...if you don't sponsor me and overwhelm me with your chairitable affection - her indoors will kill me. I bored her stupid for weeks afteer the last ride - she says I can only do this one if its really worth it. Just look what she did to me last time until I reached my target.
Thanking you in advance.
Andy
Training Update - Sunday 23rd May - I got up at 5.15am and after my morning prayers and breakfass I hit the road at 6.15 - not literally thankfully. I chose my favoured route up the Edgware Road and beyond - by 7.00am I was in Hyde Park - so I just kept going - by 8.00am I was in Streatham. It was such a lovely dat, I was tempted to keep going all the way to Brighton but after checking on my sat nav I found it was another 68Km - a bit too much for my first proper training day. So I turned around and went home - I was back by 9.30am. 52km completed.
Training Update - Sunday 30th May - Well you wouldn't belive what I did today. I was up at 5.10 - out of the house by 6.30 and I went for a short training ride - I got to Hyde Park and felt ok, so I kept going, I got to Streatham and felt ok so I kept going, I got to Croydon and felt ok, so I kept going, I got to Gatwick Airport and still felt ok, so I kept going, and finally after just over six hours in the saddle I arrived in Brighton - that's 77 miles from my front door. By that time I was running a bit late so I went straight to the station and got the train back to Victoria - I then cycled the extra 11 miles home - 88 miles in one day - the most I have ever cycled. And by the time I got home - I wasn't feeling ok!!
But I've acheived my training goal - and now I'll just have to find another one - next time I want to cycle from London to Suffolk - all 120 Miles in one day. I'll keep you posted.
