Vietnam-Cambodia Cycle Challenge 2010 · 7 March 2010 ·

EAP works in the extractive industries, public sector infrastructure and engineering education, to fight poverty and promote sustainable development. It helps deliver practical benefits to poor people through creating jobs, promoting enterprise development and providing training.

Story

Hi and thank you for taking time to look at my site.

On the 24th February 2010 I will be travelling to Saigon (Vietnam), now more commonly known as Ho Chi Minh City (after Ho Chi Minh the former North Vietnamese leader). Here I will saddle up for my eight day cycle challenge to Angkor Wat (Cambodia).

The distance is estimated at around 550Km but the real challenge lies in the long, hot and dusty days in the saddle as we cycle through remote areas and over rough terrain. Please look at the map I have attached under the photo section on the left (hit the photo's link under the pic of me lifting my bike).

I was selected along with one other employee from AMEC (who we work for) as a result of a global corporate invitation (that’s 10,700 people in 9 countries). Only two places where available, and I am lucky enough to be given the opportunity to fill one of those spots.

The charity we are supporting is Engineers Against Poverty (EAP), hence the reason AMEC wanted to be involved. EAP is an independent charity established 10 years ago by some of the UK’s leading professional engineering institutions. Their mission is to work with government, industry and civil society to fight poverty and promote sustainable development. They influence corporate and public policy and help develop practical solutions aimed at creating jobs, promoting enterprise development and improving education and training.

Please (if you can) sponsor this event and let’s try and make a difference, yes we can.
