A quiet drink one evening last summer was interrupted by a cry ‘Andy, you’re always up for a challenge – how do you fancy trekking in the Grand Canyon to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s?’ I was very excited and wanted to hear more but wondered how the ’wife’ would feel. When I told her Mary was very encouraging but insisted it was nothing to do with me being away for 8 days!
I have struggled with depression most of my adult life which came to a critical point some 18 months ago. Thanks to the love and support of family, friends and the specialist help I received, my life has changed beyond belief. This experience and challenge has given me something very positive to focus on while helping a local charity. When I made the decision to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice I never thought someone so close to me would need their care. Sadly my Mum, Ann, was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the end of the summer and I experienced the fantastic care and dedication St Wilfrid’s provide to both patient and family in her final weeks. She died peacefully in St Wilfrid’s on the 1 October 2008.
My fundraising is now personal and I want to raise as much as possible to say thank you to St Wilfrid’s.Any sponsorship you can give will be gratefully received. Justgiving is a quick, easy and secure way to give a donation. If you are a taxpayer, 25% in gift aid is added to your donation.
Thank you for your support.
Andy
