Flora London Marathon 2005 · 17 April 2005 ·

Regain is the only charitable organisation dedicated solely to improving the independence of all British men & women who have become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting or leisure accident. A tetraplegic is unable to walk and has limited reach & dexterity because use of the arms is severely impaired.

Story

Those that know me know my love of sport and the great outdoors. I am fortunate enough to have the use of all my limbs, to climb, run and chase my ambitions. If I weren't, I would still have the same ambitions, the challenge would simply be far harder. Which is why I am running the London marathon for Regain, a charity for sports tetraplegics.

Many accidents occur during active participation in sport and most of those paralysed are young people like myself. One minute they are fit, active and healthy and the next they are paralysed, unable to move and in need of support for the rest of their lives. Tetraplegia - sometimes referred to as quadriplegia - is the result of a severe spinal cord injury affecting both sensation and mobility because messages to the brain have become interrupted. A tetraplegic is unable to walk and has limited reach and dexterity because use of the arms is impaired.

REGAIN purchases equipment to help sports tetraplegics lead a more independent and fulfilling life. The charity currently has a waiting list for equipment including sports wheelchairs, adapted vehicles and voice-activated computers. For more information please visit www.regainsportscharity.com

I have promised, in aid of a fellow runner, to run dressed as a superhero. As an incentive for you to donate, I pledge that THE HIGHEST SPONSOR CAN CHOOSE THAT SUPERHERO. Get thinking, challenge me, but most importantly, please donate whatever you can.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.

Many thanks for your support. Andy
