I did it! I cycled from home to the local overground station at Tottenham, and took the train to Herne Hill to a friend's for an overnight stay, then set off early in the morning and cycled to Crystal Palace to meet my fellow riders, quite a few of them French. From there, we cycled to Newhaven, encountering a couple of quite steep hills when I had to dismount. I also had to watch out for some young reckless drivers especially on the quieter roads. We then boarded the ferry for Dieppe where we stayed overnight. From there and over three days, we cycled approximately 284 km over undulating hills through lush and rural countryside. The French are a cycle-friendly lot and stopped to wave to us as we cycled past. Even a scarecrow in someone's garden had a big smile on his face when I cycled past. It was a challenge cycling on the right hand side of the road until we reached the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs Elysees in Paris. We arrived on Bastille Day and the French were celebrating with music and fireworks at the Eiffel Tower that night. I couldnt make it to the fireworks display as we were having our celebratory dinner that night, so I climbed the Eiffel Tower the next day to finish my challenge in style!
I feel that I have done my small bit for those less fortunate than me by undertaking this charity ride for Medecins du Monde UK which will use the funds raised to help destitute people who are in need of supplies of food and medical care. Medecins du Monde assist in Burma, Gaza, Iraq, Dafur and other areas struck by natural disasters. Please view their website at www.medecinsdumonde.org.uk for more information.

Now that I have cycled to Paris, I feel bigger challenges await me and shall continue cycling wth my local cycling club and join in as many events as I can to stay in cycling mode, as I have already registered to do the London Freewheel and the ride in the grounds of Blenheim Palace which has been opened to the public for the first time.
