Harnessing Oodlesofdosh through Pedalling and Exhaustion

Following last year's success, Young Adults from the Sangkheum Center for Children successfully completed another bike ride around the magnificent Angkor temples. This year they were also accompanied by a group of young adults from Anjali House and Salariin Kampuchea, and, Jo's fellow HOPE trustee, Tanya, who made sure to schedule her annual visit to Cambodia to the day of the bike ride.

The Angkor temples provide a truly spectacular back-drop for an awesome cycle ride and many of the young adults have already started asking about the training schedules in preparation for next year's ride...!!!

During an earlier visit to Cambodia, HOPE trustees did a presentation to the young adults at Sangkheum Center for Children and enthused by their fundraising efforts, the young adults also wanted to do something - not only to take on a challenge, but to help raise funds for themselves and the next generation of young adults. This has now become an exciting challenge for a team of young adults to train for the 30 km cycle ride around their national symbol Angkor Wat and temples in the Angkor archaeological park. Starting outside of Soria Moria Boutique Hotel, the riders have eagerly been preparing for the race. Participation in the bike ride has also been facilitated with the help from a generous donation of bikes by Hotel de La Paix who ran a campaign with Mastercard and their kind guests.

You can follow the preparations and progress of the Young Adults, their supporters and educators at www.hopeforcambodia.org.uk

Angkor Bike Ride goes beyond Angkor...

During a visit to Siem Reap only weeks before the cycle ride, three Sandefjordians paid a visit to the Sangkheum Center and really liked the Young Adults Programmes and the idea of a bike ride around the awe-inspiring Angkor temples whilst raising money for a good cause.

Due to work commitments, however, they were not able to return to Cambodia for the actual ride on 4 December, but, hey, they have exercise bikes in training rooms, right...?

So, whilst obviously missing out on the great atmosphere and beautiful backdrop of the Angkor temples, Mads, Jan and Stian immediately committed to do 30kms on exercise bikes on the day of the event and Mads sent a photographic evidence that he actually did 30kms on an excercise bike in a training room somewhere offshore Australia. Very well done...!!!

Ever supportive Fi Reeves did 15kms in Sydney with bub in transit which probably is somewhat equivalent to the 30kms she should have cycled as the remote Angkor Bike Ride - very well done and awkuhn ch'ran.

On the 8th of December, Jessica lead a team of riders on a scenic loop on the Great Ocean Road along the south-eastern coast of Australia - another spectacular bike ride and a great initiative which is much appreciated.

If you would like to support the young adults in their challenge, we'd love you to join us in the actual race here in Cambodia, but do let us know if you can't make it and want to put some muscle behind your fundraising efforts elsewhere - it's all much appreciated...
