THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE WALKATHON WHICH WAS HELD ON 3 OCTOBER.
TO DATE YOU HAVE HELPED ME RAISE OVER £2000 FOR CHEST HEART STROKE SCOTLAND WHICH IS JUST FANTASTIC.
It was very windy but stayed dry and I have uploaded a couple of photos to give you an impression.
If you have not visited the site before- this is my story.
As you will know, I suffered a stroke at work on 12th August 2009. This was a huge shock to me and out of the blue. At age 57 I did not imagine that something like that could happen to me.
With hindsight and now back to work on a part time basis, I realise how lucky I have been in only being left with minor complaints- nearly making a full recovery.
Many are not so lucky and I wanted to try to give something back for the support I received from medical staff during my period of convalesence.
The Stroke Nurses who visit you at home after an attack are wholly funded by a national charity- Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland- and on 3rd October, they are holding an annual sponsored walk at Aberdeen beach.
"The Dee-Don Walkathon"
It's not a long walk- 5 miles, but the way my right foot feels, it will be more than enough. I have set myself what I hope is a moderate target as not much time is left to organise support, but I would be grateful for any support at all.
More details about the Walk can be obtained from the charity- call 0845 450 7000- or e mail val.low@chss.org.uk
Please help me support this wonderful charity by pledging any sum you like for me finishing the walk.
And please feel free to let anyone else who might be interested know about this.
Thanks in advance- I promise to get back to you personally after the event.
First Update- pm 23/09/09
Hi- I thought it would be good to try to update the site as we head towards the Walk. First of all thanks to everyone who has contributed so far- you have blown me away with your generosity. My "moderate" target now looks ridiculous- but that just makes me think what is possible- so let's see if we can make 4 figures for the cause- I am away to amend the target- thanks so much for your interest.
Second Update-am 28/09/09
Well thats just amazing. You have pushed me well through my new target and to date have raised almost 10 times my original target. My thanks to all who have contributed- I feel quite humble that you have made such generous donations- but we all know it is a good cause.
Third Update- pm 01/10/09
About 40 hours to the event- and two things are worth commenting on. Firstly -your continuing generosity- with Gift Aid we are now on target to raise more than £2k- words fail me- thanks so much- Secondly- I have tried to avoid looking at weather forecasts, but caught one by accident today- and it's not looking good! There will be a picture taken by Paula which will be put on the site to prove I did complete the walk-so you will be able to judge how bad/good it was!!
