Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anita began to lose her vision nine years ago, when she was 29. She went to see an eye specialist after seeing flashes one evening, and was later diagnosed with Acute Zonal Occult Outer Retinopathy (AZOOR) – an extremely rare retinal disease of which there is no known cause and no known cure. The disease first affected her right eye, but it was her left that was the first to lose full vision.

Until recently her vision was manageable, with a small amount of vision in her right eye and low vision in the dark.  Then it started to deteriorate causing a loss of central vision meaning Anita can no longer see faces, living through a fog and shadows. This was devastating news for Anita and her family, but what an inspiration this lady is, as all of this happened a few weeks before Anita was taking part in the Great North Run, did it stop her NO.

Anita ran the GNR half marathon (13.1 miles) with her guide Sam and completed in an amazing 2 hrs, there is no question about it this was the best medicine Anita could have had, giving her back her confidence. So it came as no surprise when Anita said she wanted to run the London Marathon (26.2 miles) with her husband to be Dave as her guide, the hardest challenge for them both to face, not only on race day but the training together during the long dark winter months.  All this to raise funds for the RNIB as they will be supporting this lovely family for a long time and other suffers like Anita.

When you see Anita you would not know anything was wrong, she continues to adapt to her disability looking after their 2 year old Blake and supporting her 16 year old Cam, who has just joined the RAF and still manages to cook for Dave!?

Please help and donate so further research can be done into this extremely rare condition.
