Story

okay, so on the lookout for more fundraising ideas to support this wonderful charity......

On Thurs 9th of May I sadly lost my dad to cancer. He has been in the merchant navy all his life, and looked after at the QAHH for the last 6months. They not only got him smiling but looked after him with care and compassion.

This page was originally setup to support my friend and I walking 20km for the home. Now it can also be used for donations to the QAHH in memory of my lovely dad

Myself and Michelle Merrilees will be doing the 20Km 'Just Walk' across the south downs in May. We are hoping and praying for good weather !!!

Many are aware of my fight with cancer. However, not many know that my father is also terminally ill from the disease. He is now confined to a wheelchair as his bones are so weak, he needs alot of daily help. It was with alot of emotion we took the decision that he should move into a home.

My father has been at the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home for Ex-Service Men and Women for three months now. It is an amazing place with fantastic caring people. They have transformed my dad and made him smile again, even though he is dying. He is also surrounded by people how have shared similar life experiences.

Since 1919 The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home charity (QAHH) has been providing nursing & rehabilitation for disabled ex-Servicemen and women. On any given day at QAHH, ex-Servicemen are learning to walk again in the physiotherapy department, stroke victims are finding their voice in occupational therapy and veterans who gave their life to their country, are being cared for in the wards.

For 94 years our charity has provided first-class support for disabled ex-Servicemen and women. With no government funding it’s imperative they raise £1.3 million each year in order to keep providing the care our heroes deserve and to remain for the injured returning from Afghanistan, who will undoubtedly need their help in years to come.

QAHH is a charity and needs all our support, so I am going to try and help a little just to say thankyou for making my dad smile!!
