Fund raising page 2.
Dear Supporter
Please, please, support our fund raising event. Over 50 people will be Running for Kids with Inherited Metabolic Disorders at the first Birmingham half marathon on the 26 October, 2008. At Birmingham Children’s Hospital, we care for over 1500 patients with many different Inherited Disorders. Each one of these conditions is very rare, but collectively they are very common (affecting about 1 in 800 children). Each condition is very serious and many are potentially life threatening. They require intensive, specialist medical care and much dedicated care from their parents and carers.
The range of conditions include: phenylketonuria, MSUD, homocystinuria, tyrosinaemia, lysosomal storage disorders, glycogen storage disorders, urea cycle disorders, galactosaemia, MCADD, long chain fatty acid disorders, propionic acidaemia, methylmalonic aciduria, isovaleric acidaemia and many, many others.
We are raising money for many projects and much needed equipment. Our list includes: research projects (basic and clinical), laboratory equipment e.g. glucometers, lactate meters, exercise equipment, database development, anthropometric measuring equipment, children’s cookery workshops, children’s holidays and events, annual Christmas party, special recipe development and special cookery books. Our dream is to have our own dedicated unit to care for children with Inherited Metabolic Disorders.
Therefore, anything you can do to help us attain our goals and provide better care for this group of children will be much appreciated. Once again, thank you from all the ‘Running for Kids with IMD’ team.
Best wishes
