Story
I am raising money for Bullying uk by cycling the South Downs Way which is 100 miles and 12,000 feet of climbs! I am completing it over two consectutive days. I have chosen this charity, as they gave me help and support when my daughter was experiencing horrendous bullying at school, which resulted in her having to leave two secondary schools. Ironically, after I had taken my daughter out of the first school the ring leader was excluded from that school and then went to the new school that I had sent my daughter to!!. I then had to take my daughter out of the second school as the bullying then continued at that school! The bully has now been excluded from the second school too!!, but unfortunately as was the case with the first school, the exclusion occured once I had already taken my daughter out of the school. My daughter is now very happy at her school and thankfully no sign of the bully - third time lucky! Despite numerous meetings and letters to the first school and the police being involved when my daughter was assaulted, the situation was not resolved. Bullying Uk gave me very helpful advice on how to cope with what was happening, and it was very reassuring to know that they are an independent organisation, as the anti-bullying team from the local LEA were unfortunately part of a system that does not work.My daughter has suffered terrible emotional and physical abuse from the bullying, and it has affected our entire family. However, my daughter is now very happy at her new school, and we hope to move away from this area soon, so that there is no chance of her bumping into the bullies in the local community. I think then we will be able to put the whole awful episode behind us and get on with our lives. I feel that doing the bike ride is a milestone for us. it now feels that we are gradually emerging from what felt like a fog that we could not find our way out of.I am doing this for my daughter to show her that something positive can come out of this, not only are we stronger and more resilient, but by raising money we can also hopefully help other people in this situation, by contributing to the funds that the charity needs to continue its fantastic work. It is our way of saying thanks!
