Story
Just before I left the UK for Canada, my uncle (husband of my mother's identical twin), was diagnosed with a rare, but increasingly wide-spread form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Because treatment is still debated, and drugs for his particular strand of Blastoid Mantle Cell Lymphoma are still experimental, my youngest cousin - a first year undergrad at Bristol University - decided to help raise money and awareness by running the Bath Half Marathon in the UK.
Support was rapid and overwhelming. Over fifty people signed up in the first few weeks. Then another cousin decided to set-up a half-marathon on the same day in Hong Kong, where she lives. Then my uncle did the same in Sydney. We on the West Coast are the final leg of a one-day, four-part, global marathon relay that aims to raise money for Stem Cell Cancer Research, and to show my uncle how much love and support he has all around the world. There are already 50 runners in Sydney, 100 in Hong Kong, and nearly 150 in Bath.
