Why wheelpower? If you've ever felt that little rush of achievement which comes from fulfilling your potential or pushing your barriers, (through sport or any other activity) you'll know how important it is to your happiness. Wheelpower aids thousands of people who've lost hope of ever experiencing a sense of achievement, to do so again. Why now? The first ever paraolympic games took place at Stoke Mandaville - still Wheelpower's base camp. In 2012 the Paraolympics are 'returning home'. Wheelpower is hoping to have a fleet of 2012 wheelchairs for the 2012 olympics. This is a big project when the chairs are £3000 each. Why is this more important than all the others clamoring for you cash? I frequently risk my neck without considering the consequences. When my mum ran the marathon for wheelpower in 2006 it made me reconsider how lucky I am to be able to freely enjoy the use of my body. Training for this marathon has been a hell of a lot harder than I'd predicted, but even when my legs are screaming it's made me count my lucky stars that I can run round Green Park 15 times if I want to (or not as the case may be...) If through my hard work and your generosity we can raise the money for two wheelchairs, we will have changed two people's lives forever. That is a pretty amazing thing to be able to claim. PS Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: WheelPower gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
